Government Certification
Achieving Standards complianceFIPS140-2 Certification of Device Control
Device Control was a product which in part protects data on peripheral devices such flash drives and external hard drives through encryption. The goal of this project was to achieve certification for NIST cryptography standard for Device Control, as this certification is a purchasing requirement for most government agencies. I was able to enable sales to these agencies by earning this certification.

Expanding capabilities through integrationiPhone support for Mobile Device Management (MDM)
Mobile Device Management was a new product I managed. The organization did not have the resources to implement management of iOS-based devices in time for the initial launch. The iOS market is clearly too large to ignore, so I evaluated several third-party iOS MDM agents and selected one partner to integrate with. I wrote the requirements and managed the delivery of an MDM solution which inlcuded support for iOS through this agent.

Providing a white-label option for SalesAdd White-labeling support to existing product
I managed a data protection product which MSP's and MSSP's wanted to offer to their customers. They wanted the solution to be branded with their own name so their customers knew where to turn for support and sales. I automated the process of producing white-label builds & releases.
No business process existed for adding white-label customers. Each one had to be hand-held through the onbvoarding process. I templatized the process and developed a price sheet for Sales and Business Development to add new white-label customers.

This project was in support of an organizational goal to migrate all customers to a new modular platform which increase cross-selling opporuntities and increase internal development efficiencies. I managed a ground-up rewrite of an existing standalone product as a module in a new platform, maintaining feature parity. The development took place in parallell to the ongoing management of the existing product, and leveraged a separate development team.

I developed the world's first DVD+VCR combo unit. I worked with a major electronics manufacturer who was an existing partner to develop a product which became a commodity, and several lucrative IP licensing deals.

Find innovative niches in a market dominated by global companies and protect those niches through patents. As part of a team, we developed several new patent applications. The company continued to collect licensing revenue for decades for some patents. Note: The USPTO found some applications to be already covered in existing patents awarded to the company. Other applications were not pursued to issuance due to costs relative to the related opportunity.

Datahands was a startup producing an ergonomic keyboard targeted at people experiencing or at risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. I joined the company as their first FTE Electronics Engineer, replacing a consultant. I redesigned the electronics hardware and rewrote the software to reduce the electronics BOM costs by 67%. I also developed custom keyboard interfaces for customers such as the IRS and USPS, including reverse engineering their hardware.
